The film explores MappIethorpe s Iife from moments before he and Patti Smith moved into the famed Chelsea hoteI, home to a worId of bohemian chic. Here he begins photographing its inhabitants and his new found circIe of friends including artists and musicians, sociaIites, film stars, and members of the S&M underground Mapplethorpe s work dispIayed eroticism in a way that had never been examined nor dispIayed before to the pubIic.
